Can I file for divorce in Florida if we were married in a different state?

Often, it's posed whether or not a same-sex couples who got married in another state can get a divorce in the state of Florida. The fact of the matter is you can. Florida will uphold the legitimized marriage in another state. You don't have to go back to the state that you were married in to get divorced, as long as you can prove that you've been a resident of the state of Florida for more than six months.
