Why is it important to establish paternity?

There are several reasons why it's important to establish paternity. For the mother, it's important to establish paternity because that's what's going to enable you to seek and obtain child support, so you can get child support on behalf of your child. For the father, it's important to establish paternity because, under Florida law, the mother has 100% custody of the child until a court order provides you with time, so you won't be allowed to have court order time-share until that paternity is established. It's also important for the father to establish paternity and have that legally established because in the event you are to predecease the child, that child would then be able to inherit from you.
